This cuvee is aged 14 months in both French and American oak, and is bottled without filtration. The inky/purple-colored 2002 The Armagh boasts notes of scorched earth, chocolate, leather, blackberries, and cassis. Its huge body, marvelous integration of acidity, tannin, and alcohol, and stunning finish of 60+ seconds are impressive. While accessible, it will be even better with 1-2 more years of bottle age, and should evolve for 12-15+." Standish 'The Relic' Shiraz Viognier 2004 (99 POINTS - Robert Parker) "More exotic and flamboyant than the Shiraz, but equally profound is the 2004 Shiraz/Viognier The Relic (93% and 7% respectively, cropped at .5 tons of fruit per acre, and aged 20 months in old French oak). An inky/purple-colored, powerful, full-bodied, rich red, it possesses a huge, sweet nose of blue and black fruits, flowers, and subtle oak, a blockbuster mid-section, and an amazingly long finish. More approachable than the 2003 Shiraz, it can be drunk now or cellared for 15 or more years. Dan Standish is one of the Barossa’s up-and-coming superstars, and his wines merit serious attention." D'arenberg 'Dead Arm' Shiraz 2001 (98 POINTS - Robert Parker) "Readers should be on the look out for the 2001 The Dead Arm Shiraz, one of the greatest examples of this cuvee. Its dense black/purple color is accompanied by celestial aromas of melted licorice, graphite, blackberries, cassis, incense, anise, and toasty oak. Fabulously concentrated, with great purity, an unctuous, viscous texture, and an amazingly long, 60-second plus finish, this fabulous baby will need 5-6 years of cellaring, and should drink well over the following 20-25 years." Torbreck 'Descendant' Shiraz Viognier 2001 (98 POINTS - Robert Parker) "The spectacular 1999 The Factor is the second vintage of this 100% Shiraz cuvee aged primarily in old French oak for 30 months prior to being bottled with no fining or filtration. David Powell calls it the "most classic Barossa Valley wine" he makes. Yields from these old Shiraz vineyards average 1.35 tons of fruit per acre. The opaque inky/blue/purple color is accompanied by scents of new saddle leather, pepper, creosote, smoke, and blackberry liqueur. This full-bodied, marvelously concentrated, stunningly pure Shiraz is the qualitative equivalent of this estate's flagship offering, the Run Rig. Anticipated maturity: Now-2016."
Kilikanoon 'Oracle' Shiraz 2004 (97 POINTS - Robert Parker) "The dense purple-colored 2004 Shiraz Oracle ratchets up the fruit and glycerin levels, yet remains pure, elegant, and well-balanced. It offers beautiful aromas of blueberries, blackberries, acacia flowers, and spicy oak. Full-bodied, powerful, cleanly textured, long, and heady, I would not be surprised to see it evolve for 15-20" Mitolo 'G.A.M' Shiraz 2004 (97 POINTS - Robert Parker) "Aged 18 months in primarily French oak, the 2004 Shiraz G.A.M. is an exceptional example of a precise yet full-flavored, concentrated Shiraz. Its gorgeous perfume of blueberries, blackberries, camphor, licorice, and pain grille is followed by an inky/blue/purple-colored wine offering superb purity, full-bodied richness, and gorgeous depth as well as texture. This fabulous effort is another example of Ben Glaetzer’s brilliant talents. It should drink well for 15 years. For a winery only established in 1999, and dedicated to hand-crafted, artisinal wines, Mitolo has consistently been a revelation in my tastings. Thanks to owner Frank Mitolo and his brilliant winemaker, Ben Glaetzer, the quality has been truly splendid." **********************************************
| KNOCKOUTS FROM 1998 iconic wines from one of Australia's best vintages | | | 2 x Torbreck 'Run Rig' Shiraz 1998 (99 POINTS) 2 x Kay Brothers 'Block 6' Shiraz 1998 (99 POINTS) 2 x Penfolds Grange 1998 (99 POINTS) 2 x Fox Creek 'Reserve' Shiraz 1998 (98 POINTS) 2 x D'arenberg 'Dead Arm' Shiraz 1998 (96 POINTS) 2 x Noon 'Eclipse' Shiraz 1998 (96 POINTS) ***** PURCHASE ENQUIRY ***** Torbreck 'Run Rig' Shiraz 1998 (99 POINTS - Robert Parker) "David Powell's most expensive red wine is undoubtedly the 1998 Run Rig. However, it is not out of line with what wines of similar quality sell for throughout the world, unfortunately a reality. There are nearly 600 cases of the 1998 Run Rig, which is made from vines averaging between 50 and 130 years of age. It is a blend of 97% Shiraz and 3% Viognier, aged completely in French oak for approximately 18 months prior to bottling. The 1998 may well be the most concentrated Run Rig to date. The color is an opaque purple, and the bouquet offers an exotic concoction of tropical fruit, blackberry liqueur, creme de cassis, smoke, and honeysuckle notes. Once past the exhilarating fragrance, the wine is sumptuous and full-bodied, with a skyscraper-like profile of fabulous concentration and length that builds in the mouth. The black fruits galore scenario unfolds to reveal beautifully integrated wood, acidity, tannin, and alcohol (a mere 14.5%). The balance is virtually perfect, and the finish lasts for nearly a minute. This luxurious, compelling gem displays a level of complexity and delineation that is rare in a wine of such size. Anticipated maturity: now-2016. This wine not only makes for compelling drinking, but it is also a huge amount of fun, and isn't that what it's all about? If I had to give an award to Australia's finest winemaker in 2001, it would be hard not to consider David Powell." Kay Brothers 'Block 6' Shiraz 1998 (99 POINTS - Robert parker) "I have to wonder if this wine would not be even more extraordinary and close to perfection if it were aged in French oak. American oak is still the big deal in Australia, despite the exceptional success the more subtle French oak has had nearby at Clarendon Hills. The 1998 shows the aggressive toasty oak in the nose, but there is no doubt that is going to be completely absorbed in another 3-5 years of cellaring, given the wine's mammoth concentration and extravagant richness. The wine has a black/purple color and an extraordinarily sweet nose of black fruits intermixed with spice box, licorice, and a touch of pepper. A monster wine on the palate, and still uncivilized and too young to actually enjoy drinking, this wine should be at its peak by 2006 and keep for up to 2020 or so. A great vintage for Block 6 Shiraz." Penfolds Grange 1998 (99 POINTS - Robert Parker) "The 1998 Grange will be legendary. A blend of 97% Shiraz and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, it tips the scales at a whopping 14.5% alcohol. The inky/purple color is followed by an extraordinarily intense nose of creme de cassis intermixed with blueberry and floral notes. As the wine sits in the glass, aromas of meat, plums, and cola also emerge. It is a seamless effort with sweet tannin, well-integrated acidity, sensational extract, and layer upon layer of blackberry and cassis fruit that stain the palate and fill the mouth. Its harmony, freshness, and remarkable length (the finish lasts nearly a minute) suggest an all-time classic. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2030." Fox Creek "Reserve' Shiraz 1998 (98 POINTS - Robert Parker) "Nearly perfect, the opaque black/purple-colored 1998 Shiraz Reserve (2,300 cases) plays to the great strength of Australia -- powerful, naturally-textured, super-rich wines that are big and chewy. Exceptionally rich and explosive, with great purity as well as remarkable symmetry and overall balance for such massiveness, this blockbuster can be drunk now or cellared for 12-15 years. Make no doubt about it, this Shiraz will elicit more than a few "wows" in any tasting - blind or otherwise." D'arenberg 'Dead Arm' Shiraz 1998 (96 POINTS - Robert Parker) "The 1998 The Dead Arm Shiraz (from a vineyard planted prior to 1890) is outrageously rich, spectacular stuff, the likes of which only Australia seems capable of making. Whiners may complain that it is too big, too rich, too flavorful, and too damn good, but this opaque purple-colored offering is loaded with blackberry liqueur, smoke, charcoal, pepper, cassis, and licorice. Unctuously-textured and full-bodied, but neither heavy nor overbearing, the wine's sweet tannin and low acidity are hidden in the cascade of fruit and glycerin that melt on the palate. This riveting, compelling effort can be drunk now, but promises to age well for two decades or more." Noon 'Eclipse' Shiraz 1998 (96 POINTS - Robert Parker) "The 1998 Eclipse (from 35 to 65-year old Shiraz vines cropped at two tons per acre) possesses a whopping 15.7% alcohol, which is totally concealed by the dense, blackberry liqueur-scented and flavored fruit. Notes of cassis, toast, pepper, and licorice can also be found in this thick, full-bodied effort. It is a phenomenally rich, super-extracted wine of astonishing intensity. The tannin is sweet, the acidity low, and the wine unreal. Drink it over the next 10-15+ years. This is a tour de force winemaking effort, and it performed better from the bottle opened forty-eight hours prior to the tasting. This is an exceptional wine from an Australian genius!" **********************************************

This medium to full-bodied, elegant Shiraz reveals beautiful integration of wood, an expansive texture, and a natural mouthfeel. The result of impeccable winemaking from top-notch vineyard sources, it is another example of winemaker Matt Wenk and Michael Twelftree’s talents. It should drink well for a decade." Kilikanoon 'Oracle' Shiraz 2001 (95 POINTS - Robert Parker) "Profound is the 2001 Shiraz Oracle, one of the flagship wines of Kilikanoon. From low yielding 40-year-old vines, produced in open top fermenters, and aged 24 months in 50% new French oak casks, there are 1,000 cases of this spectacular Shiraz. A dense purple color is accompanied by a sumptuous perfume of creme de cassis, blackberry liqueur, scorched earth, smoke, graphite, and espresso. There is tremendous density, remarkable full-bodied power, good underlying acidity, and a big, fleshy, full-throttle finish with fine acidity as well as sweet tannin. While still young, it should age for 10-15 years." Clyde Park Shiraz 2004 (95 POINTS - James Halliday) "Within a matter of days, I tasted this wine under quite different circumstances, but with virtually identical notes and points. Vibrantly coloured, it has a spotless array of black cherry, blackberry and plum aromas and flavours. The medium-bodied palate has great focus and balance, supported by high quality oak. . . . . . . . . . . . Drink now-2015" Voyager Estate Shiraz 2004 (95 POINTS - James Halliday) "One of four wines from Voyager all deserving a place in the Top 100, with impressive quality and value for money. Bright, deep colour suggests the fragrant, spicy black fruits aromas which indeed follow; the palate has concentrated, sweet blackberry and licorice fruit, and exemplary oak and tannins. . .Drink now-2010" Mollydooker 'The Boxer' Shiraz 2004 (95 POINTS - Robert Parker) "The 2005 The Boxer Shiraz (primarily from McLaren Vale, followed by Langhorne Creek and Padthaway) exhibits a black/blue/purple color, an incredible density of fruit along with that tell-tale purity, blackberries, white flowers, melted chocolate, sweet licorice, and subtle wood. Full-bodied, beautifully textured and layered with an awesome finish, it should drink well for 4-6+ years." Elderton 'Command' Shiraz 2002 (93 POINTS - Jeremy Oliver) "Quite a sophisticated but extremely ripe shiraz that has retained plenty of vibrant, bright fruit character. Its juicy aromas of cassis, dark plums, blackberries and sweet cedar/mocha oak arte backed by spicy nuances, with suggestions of mint and menthol. Smooth and sumptuous, its oaky and velvet-like palate underpins its blackberry and dark plum flavours with riper, meaty currant-like influences and assertive, smoky and dark chocolate oak. It finishes with lingering spicy, raisined and savoury characters. Drink 2014-2022" **********************************************

This full-bodied, powerful, rich, layered stunner should drink well for a decade." Kay Brothers 'Hillside' Shiraz 2002 (95 POINTS - Robert Parker) "A glorious example of South Australian Shiraz is the 2002 Shiraz Hillside. Made from relatively young vines (8-34 years of age), this flamboyant, pleasant 2002 is impossible to resist. Already rocking and rolling, it has 10-15 years of aging potential. A deep plum/ruby/purple hue is followed by glorious aromas of black fruits, flowers, dusty, loamy, truffle-like scents, and a classic combination of pepper and licorice. The wine saturates the palate with a seamless integration of acidity, tannin, and alcohol (15%). The finish is opulent and multilayered. This wine is finished with a screw cap." D'arenberg "Coppermine Road' Cabernet 1998 (95 POINTS - Robert Parker) "Readers looking for sensationally concentrated, yet well-balanced Cabernet Sauvignon that can be drunk now or cellared for twenty years should check out the 1998 The Coppermine Road Cabernet Sauvignon. It boasts a dense purple color as well as an exquisitely pure nose of cassis, oak, earth, cedar, and spice box. Full-bodied and powerful, with a seamless personality (because of the melted tannin), this large-scaled, classic southern Australian Cabernet Sauvignon can rival the world's finest Cabernet Sauvignons. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2025." Wirra Wirra 'The Angelus' Cabernet 2002 (95 POINTS - Huon Hooke) "***** 5 STARS. Dense, thickly textured, chewy, sumptuously flavoured, it's undoubtedly varietal and high quality, but almost painfully rich, fleshy and concentrated." Fox Creek 'Reserve' Shiraz 1996 (95 POINTS - Robert Parker) Nearly perfect, the opaque black/purple-colored 1998 Shiraz Reserve (2,300 cases) plays to the great strength of Australia -- powerful, naturally-textured, super-rich wines that are big and chewy. Exceptionally rich and explosive, with great purity as well as remarkable symmetry and overall balance for such massiveness, this blockbuster can be drunk now or cellared for 12-15 years. Make no doubt about it, this Shiraz will elicit more than a few "wows" in any tasting - blind or otherwise." Coriole Sangiovese 2004 (94 POINTS - Huon Hooke) "Coriole's best sangiovese yet, and they've been doing it longer than anyone. Delicious cherry, raspberry and vanilla aromas; deeper and more lushly fruited than earlier vintages, with impressive weight and intensity" **********************************************
